MTV’s The Challenge: All-Stars Episode 6 “Free Fallin'” Recap
The girls are talking about the new double elimination twist. Katie says how it would be so smart to pick the strongest male if she were to be voted in. She says, “sure you can vote me in but just know I’m taking the strongest motherfucker in here with me.” I love this twist because it really makes you think about who you’re going to vote for. You might want to vote a certain player in, but are they going to pick you as a partner in the elimination out of spite? The twists and drama that could come out of this are exciting.
We see Aneesa and LT are a thing. I think my jaw hit the ground. I did NOT see that ever coming and didn’t think I’d love it as much as I do.
The Challenge
The challenge is called “Escape The Room” and it’s a shipping container over water (uh-oh Katie! We all know she hates over the water challenges and sure enough, they do play the montage of her getting hurt in the water) They are in 4 teams of 4. There are puzzles set up in the container, and a trap door beneath you that will open randomly. Try to solve the puzzle before the trap door opens. The team with the most people to complete the puzzle wins.
The Gold Team is Jonna, Big Easy, LT, and Ruthie. LT says to him that he doesn’t think he should be a captain since he’s already been a captain 2 times, but Easy still makes them do “Paper, Rock, Scissors” to figure it out, and this is why I don’t like him. Luckily Easy loses and he’s the captain, along with Ruthie.
The Silver Team is Darrell, Jisela, Alton, and KellyAnne. Darrell volunteers to be a captain and so KellyAnne volunteers too. Her rationale is if they lose and they have to go into elimination, there’s no better partner than Darrell anyway, so might as well. Genius level actually.
The Copper Team is Katie, Derrick, Aneesa, and Yes. Katie volunteers to be captain because Aneesa had just had the elimination the night before and because it’s over water so she assumes she’ll perform poorly. Yes is the male captain.
The Black Team is Kendal, Mark, Jemmye, and Nehemiah with Kendal and Mark being captains.
Their puzzle is a letter with a complicated Aztec-patterned background. There are a lot of little lines and patterns you need to pay attention to and it looks pretty hard to do, especially when you know the ground beneath you can collapse at any moment.
Katie doesn’t do it at all, she’s terrified. Kendal’s letter is backward and she knows it but somehow leaves it because she thinks she’ll get half credit. [you can’t see my face but it’s a very wtf look I’m making]
Only 1 person got the puzzle completely correct and that’s Big Easy so the Gold team wins and he and Ruthie are safe. The team that did the worst was the Black team so Kendal and Mark are automatically going to the Arena.
TJ says that yes it’s a double-elimination but since it’s a “girl’s” day, you’ll just vote for one female. That female will then get to choose their partner once they’re in the arena. That’s an advantage because you could see what the elimination is going to be and then pick someone based on that.
The Deliberation
Mark says to Kendal that she should choose a female she wants to go against, not even thinking which guy they’ll pick because he feels confident against everyone. Um, yeah. Obviously. Kendal doesn’t want to choose and wants to leave it up to the house. [again with my ‘wtf’ face]
Katie volunteers because she says she would feel bad having someone else go in when she didn’t do anything in the challenge. Jemmye’s commentary here is gold and I won’t do it justice, but she basically says that the old Katie would be embarrassed by the new Katie. This is The Challenge, not your kid’s soccer league. Why does no one else except Jemmye understand that you should never volunteer yourself? This is half a million dollars, people! KellyAnne, another surprising voice of reason, says that you shouldn’t just get to volunteer yourself and the house should still vote on it. They vote but it’s a moot point because everyone just votes for Katie. I get it. You don’t want to say someone else’s name and potentially make an enemy. It’s a safe vote.
The Party
This is the lamest party they’ve had so far because the guys are all shitting their pants. They are all sucking up to Katie, no one wants to go in. Except for LT who says “he couldn’t stand it if he had a friend in need and didn’t do anything to help.” That might be a little too deep but ok, thanks. The parties might be getting tamer because these 40-year-olds have been there for at least a week now and we get tired easily! This is too much activity for us!
The Elimination
It’s basically a tug of war but you’re standing on the tree stump. If you drop the rope or fall off the log, you’re out. Best of 3. I’m thinking Mark’s size might actually be a detriment in this because those stumps don’t look that big. Katie picks LT to go in with her, which makes total sense. He’s a great competitor and he’s the only one who voiced he’d be ok with going in. It’s hard to be responsible for someone else potentially having to leave the game.
Katie and LT win the first round. Why am I so nervous? I realized I was sitting there holding my breath.
Kendal and Mark win the second. Ugh. Everyone is so tired and I just don’t see how Katie is going to be able to beat Kendal here. They do a really good job and LT takes a really long time to drop the rope, but Mark is just too strong and overpowers him. I’m so sad to see Katie leave and Aneesa is sad to see LT go.
TJ then announces this is the last arena. Wait, WHAT. I knew they were going to have to do some creative and fast eliminations since this All-Star season was only going to film for 3-5 weeks, but damn. Ok, MTV let’s see what you’re making up as you go along now.
Final Thoughts
Do you guys remember in the older seasons where they filmed intro’s? It would be a cutesy little song and pose with their name on the screen. I really think they missed a golden opportunity here for that. I can just see them showing the competitor how they look now transposed with images of them from their past seasons, possibly a controversial moment they had. Big Easy’s would just be the clip of him almost dying in that final. Next season, guys. Let’s get someone on that.
